25 Carat with a twist NOTD
I’m really not very good at nail art, or any kind of art really, so Barry M’s crackle polish really is the only way I can get some kind of arty effect on my nails. I’ve tried (and failed, badly) with Konad and freehand leopard print designs but never got the desired effect so this is the closest to leopard print my nails are ever likely to come, unfortunately.
I used Models Own 25 Carat Gold as a base colour, then the Barry M Nail Effects crackle polish over the top all sealed with my Sally Hansen mega shine topcoat.
The Models Own polish has a really strong smell, it smells like car battery acid and is really not very pleasant. The colour was opaque in just the one coat, and went on smoothly without any visible brush strokes but I added another coat for full effect. I feel with my skin tone the gold on it’s own looks a bit odd, like it really washes me out and makes my skin look pink and… Old? I probably wouldn’t wear it without the Barry M crackle polish over the top but for darker skin tones I can imagine this looking quite stunning, it really is a rich, true gold.
Although it is a bit tacky, I love the look and it got soo many compliments!

This looks great – I won the BM paint effects from the fab Ray at whoissheblog and I was amazed that even cack handed me can work it. Love the gold underneath though what a fabulous look. Thanks for this I can feel a trip to Boots coming up. Jan x

I got this and absolutely love it – it looks fab with the gold underneath!! – Apparenlty OPI have introduced one called Shatter polish it will be way more expensive lol but I'm interested to know what it's like – If I try it I will let you know!
I love it with mint green underneath, I think it works best with lighter colours IMO. The OPI one was released with the Katy Perry collection, which is mostly glitters and not really my thing but I bet they were gutted Barry M got in there with the craze first lol x

I've never noticed Models Own smelling bad, now i want to sniff my bottles!
Ha, I don't think I'ld wear it again – maybe at Christmas but not just to go shopping!
Everyone noticed it, even my Mum could smell it downstairs and thought we had a gas leak or something =0/ x
