Mineral Criminal?
Hey muff puffs =D
I’ve seen alot of posts since being a blogette on mineral makeup, mainly foundation and think its about time I jumped on the kabuki buffed bandwagon! Nearly all cosmetic houses have their own version of mineral makeup, ranging from cheapies like NYC, E.L.F, Rimmel etc. to more expensive designer brands like Estee Lauder, Bare Minerals and most recently MAC. I have very oily skin (you could fry an egg on my chin!) and have been told my countless make up assistants that mineral is the way forward but have always opted for the safer, liquid formulas. One of the major turn-offs for me is the difference in shades, they seemed to run alot darker… and even the lighest shade was too dark =0/.
When the mineral sensation hit the chemist shelves one of the first high street brands to bring one out was good old Revlon. It was the ‘ColorStay Mineral Foundation’ and had the brush built into the lid, in shade ‘Fair’. My first thoughts were *OMG this brush is going to cut my face to pieces!* the brush was soooo rough =0/. I don’t know if they’ve changed it since then, as we are going back nearly 3 years but my God, it was awful. The colour didn’t match and it made me greasy by mid morning =(.
Then I tried (on a whim) Rimmels ‘Ivory Lasting Finish Mineral Foundation’ . The major flaw in this is that the shade is ORANGE, I actually looked like a oompa loompa =0/. Needless to say I didn’t keep it on my face very long so can’t comment on the lasting abilities or if it really had a ‘Lasting Finish’ as it was off my face quicker then you could say ‘tangoed’!
Next was the No.7 ‘Mineral Loose Powder Foundation’ again in Ivory. Having worked as a No.7 consultant I was pretty sure I was an ‘Ivory’ as I had matched to this shade in all the other foundations…. but again… ORANGE O’CLOCK! A girl I worked with was a fake tan queen (Dale Winton style) and this shade matched HER, thats how dark it was lol.
So as you can see I haven’t had much luck but I really want to give them another bash as sooo many oily skinned ladies love the formula and get amazing results with just a few swirls!
What sparked my interest in them again besides the blog posts is this gorgeous kit by Bare Minerals, its a little price at £38.25 (RRP £45) but I know the quality would be fantastic and BM are probobly the world leaders in mineral makeup
Included in the kit is everything you need:
- bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation - Fairly Light (2g)
- bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation – Light (2g)
- bareMinerals Multi Tasking Minerals – Bisque (1.2g)
- bareMinerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder (2g)
- bareMinerals All-Over Face Colour – Warmth (2g)
- Full Flawless Application Face Brush
- Flawless Application Face Brush
- Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush
- How to DVD
Another brand I’ve heard alot about is Lily Lolo who is a lesser known mineral cosmetics company but seem to be loved by many! They are also a tad cheaper at £35 so could be a good place to start.
They also do a starter kit ‘Complexion Perfection’ which is really good because you get to choose your own foundation shade and finishing veil (silk or matte) and the online swatches are really clear.
The kit comprises of a full size foundation (shade of your choice), a finishing powder (silk or matte) and a super kabuki brush.
*edit* Ohhhhh I’ve just joined the Lily Lolo fanpage on Facebook and there is a discount code for the Complexion Perfection kit! £5 off, woop! Simply enter winterskin5 at the checkout!
I think thats just helped me make my mind up lol!
So what do you think of mineral makeup? Is it worth the hype?
